Malta Wrestlers Compete at CMR Classic, Fairfield Mixer

The Malta Wrestling Teams had a busy weekend of competition after facing several teams in Fairfield last Thursday, December 15, and then at the 2022 CMR Holiday Classic in Great Falls.

The Malta Boys Team scored a total of 53 points, while the Malta Girls were able to score 32 in their team total.

Malta’s boys were led by senior Camryn “Reggie” Mears who took fourth place in the 182 pound class. Mears went 3-2 at the event after receiving a bye in the first two rounds. He scored 19 points at the CMR. He lost the third place match to Great Falls CMR’s AJ LaFurge by a 12-5 decision.

The Girls were led by Ava Hanson who took fourth place in the Girls 165 Class. Hanson went 4-2 at the CMR and lost her third place match to Miles City’s Ariana Ellison by pin fall at :43. Hanson scored a total of 20 points.

Isabel Hansen went 4-2 in the Girls 126 Class. Hansen made it to the sixth round of consolation before losing by pin fall at 1:35 in her match with Miles City’s Grayle Fox.

For the boys, Spencer Gibbs scored a team leading 19 points in the 205 class, tying Mears. Gibbs placed fifth in his class after defeating Belgrade’s Ben Rodgers by 10-4 decision in the fifth place match.

Straud Sims went 2-2 in the 132 class and scored six points for Malta. Colton Mears scored five points in the 170 class and was 1-2 at the event. Kohner Schipman scored four points in the 138 class and was 1-2.

Colton Honey (160) and Taylin Johannesen (145) competed for Malta but were unable to score points.

Malta went 11-8 at the Fairfield Mixer.

Isabel Hansen opened up round one against Anaconda’s Cami Holland. Holland won the match by 9-2 decision.

At 132, Straud Sims pinned Koey Kerbis of Anaconda at 3:23.

Kohner Schipman wrestled at 138 and was pinned by Fairfield’s Zane Carter in 1:30.

At 145, Taylin Johannesen was pinned by Mishell Williams of Simms at 2:56.

Colton Honey was pinned in his 160 match against St. Ignatius’ Chance Bockman in :33.

Ava Hanson pinned Alexis Lamere of St. Ignatius in the 165 match.

Colton Mears pinned Jace Brierly of Conrad in 5:08 in the 170 Match.

Camryn Mears pinned Conrad’s Cole Chambers at 1:25 in the 182 match.

Spencer Gibbs pinned Choteau’s Gus Lee in the 205 match.

Round 2:

Hansen was pinned in her second round match against Lily Schwart of Simms at 2:48.

Sims won his match against Anaconda’s Zach Bladnick by 7-5 decision.

Schipman pinned Avery Banner of Fairfield in :30.

Johannesen pinned Rowdy Barber of Anaconda in 2:11.

Honey pinned Conrad’s Brierly in 2:00.

Hanson was pinned by Abby Stott of Conrad in 1:41.

Co. Mears lost by an 8-3 decision to Stott.

Ca. Mears pinned Conrad’s Tegan jones in 1:48.

Gibbs pinned Cole Troy of Fairfield in :55.
