Mavericks Fall to Glasgow, Scobey

The North Country Mavericks fell to a pair of tough opponents last week including the Class B Glasgow Scotties and Scobey Spartans. The action comes fresh off of the 2022-23 Winter Break.

First-year Mavericks Head Coach Haakon Fredrickson is encouraged in his team's growth after the first week of 2023.

"Since the holiday break this group has become much more organized offensively and on out of bounds plays," Coach Fredrickson said. "This connectivity has lead to more open looks around the rim and also opens our perimeter shooters."

"Defensively, we are beginning to understand different offensive concepts in our help defense," Coach Fredirckson continued. "Where we need to be and when, what patterns the other team is running and why. I look forward to watching this team continue to improve and play team basketball."

In their first game back from break, the Mavericks lost 70-32 to Glasgow in Saco.

The Mavericks were led by Blaine Downing who scored 18 points. Kade Strommen had six points, Coy Bowman had five points, and Jake Brown had three points.

The team then lost to Scobey 46-34 on Saturday, January 7, in Scobey.

The team was led by Downing and Bowmen who both scored 13 points. Strommen scored four points. Brown and Andrew Boucher each had two points.
