P.C. Coaches Talk About Girls All Conference Selections

The Malta M-ettes, Lady Mavericks, and Dodson Lady Coyotes all landed athletes to their respective All-Conference lists in 2023.

The Lady Mavericks, who won the 2023 State C Title has the most All-Conference athletes with six. This includes junior Paige Wasson and senior Kora LaBrie who were both All-State Selections. Teagan Erickson was the first athlete named to the 3C District list. Wasson was second. Kora LaBrie was seventh, Mattea McColly was ninth, Shelbi LaBrie was tenth, and Kendall Scheffelmear was eleventh. Erickson and Wasson were named to the Defensive Team.

Malta, who competed on Saturday morning at the State B tournament was represented on the 2B All-Conference list by three athletes, which includes All State Selections Allison Kunze and Madison Williamson, as well as Second Team Selection Addy Anderson.

Dodson was represented by Kataya KillEagle, who was an All-State Selection, named fourth on the 3C All-Conference list, and was named to the Defensive Team.

Dodson Lady Coyote Head Coach Clayton KillEagle took time to talk about Kataya, who had a record setting season for Dodson.

Junior Kataya KillEagle: Kataya is the model student athlete any coach would ask for. By student athlete, I mean obtaining accolades not only on the court but in the classroom as well. An honor roll student and a very self-disciplined basketball player, she has achieved great milestones this season by setting a new school scoring record at 47 points (both boys and girls) and reaching her 1000th point. Kataya has a very good attitude and has never been negative toward teammates, only encouraging. She is a top player in the 3C Conference earning All-Conference and All-State honors. As a coach it's an honor to coach a player such as Kataya. After an unfavorable turnout ending our season earlier than planned at the district tournaments in Glasgow, Kataya is even more fueled to work hard to put her team and school on the radar for her senior season of 23-24. I have no doubt in my mind this kid has a very bright future in whatever path she chooses.

Malta M-ettes Head Coach Nate Hammond took time to talk about his All-Conference Athletes.

Senior Allison Kunze: Led team with 14.4 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. The most talented offensive rebounder I've ever coached. Second all time in career rebounds with 802. Really became a great defender this year as well.

Senior Maddie Williamson: 12.8 points and 5.1 steals per game. Great defender and grew into a great point guard the last two years. Set the school record with 135 steals this year.

Senior Addy Anderson: 8.7 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. All-around player, who can score outside and inside. Can defend all five positions with her speed and strength.

Lady Mavericks Head Coach Amber Erickson talked about her All-Conference athletes:

Landing six kids onto the All-Conference list, two on the defensive team and three making All-State is a true testament to how great this team is!

Senior Kora LaBrie: Coaching Kora the past four years has been so much fun. She is a fearless competitor and it's been amazing to watch her grow both mentally and physically. She works so hard and is very coachable. She loves the game and has put so many hours in the gym shooting and fine tuning her game. I'm proud of the amazing career Kora has had as a Lady Maverick and it has been awesome seeing her develop into a leader. I look forward to watching her continue that success everywhere in her life moving forward.

Senior Mattea McColly: Mattea has been a blast to coach. She is so strong and really stepped into the role of defending the other team's biggest, strongest post player. Her post footwork has improved so much throughout her career and I really feel like this season she peaked and was so solid on both ends of the floor. She is also an aggressive rebounder and energetic vocal leader and will be greatly missed.

Junior Paige Wasson: Paige is such an explosive, talented player. This is her third season on the All-Conference/All-State list and second year on the All-Defensive team. She has the ability to score from anywhere on the floor. She had an amazing season leading us in scoring averaging 17.8 points., 4.7 rebounds, 3.6 steals and 2.2 assists. Paige plays great defense and knows how to get into the passing lanes and wreak havoc. I am so excited to have her and this junior class back for another summer and season.

Junior Teagan Erickson: Teagan is a special player and athlete. She is so versatile having the ability and skill set to post up, play at the hi-post or on the perimeter. She can defend a post or a guard and she runs the floor so well. She is a great passer with a high basketball IQ. This is also her third season on the All-Conference/All-State list and second year on the All-Defensive team. She led us in rebounds, assists and blocked shots this season, averaging 14.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 31 blocked shots. She sees the floor so well and loves to see her teammates succeed.

Junior Kendall Scheffelmear: Kendall was our sixth man off the bench this season. She is so lengthy and has a natural knack for the ball especially defensively and rebounding. She plays great help defense and is so good at contesting shots and protecting the paint. She has come so far in her offensive post footwork and ability to score with her back to the basket. I'm so excited to get her back for another season and she will be a huge part of our quest for another State Championship.

Sophomore Shelbi LaBrie: Shelbi was so much more comfortable this season coming in and knowing a lot of the stuff we run both offensively and defensively. She is hard-nosed and gritty and gets after it defensively. Her outside shooting improved this season and she can also get to the rim. I love how fearless she plays and I can't wait to watch her continue to grow as a player these next two years.
