One Nation, Under God

The Shoe Being on the Other Foot

I better start off by saying that I now have a deeper appreciation for those with the courage to be interviewed by myself or any other member of the media!

For the past ten years I have interviewed local coaches, athletes, and others around this great county, and seldom have I been the subject of an interview.

That changed for me a couple of months ago as I had the chance to tell my life story on Live Under the Big Sky at KLTZ F.M. Radio in Glasgow.

My friend Georgie called me about the opportunity one week prior and I reluctantly took the offer and dreaded the thought of me talking live on the radio for a whole hour! I have been on the radio before, but I was in a rock band for that interview and the Jael crew carried me!

I hit the road for Glasgow that Wednesday, running a little later than I wanted, and drove 70 miles to “The Middle of Nowhere USA,” through a ton of fog. I arrived with seven minutes to spare and took a few long and deep breaths.

I have to say that after the interview was done, I felt a lot better about the whole idea. I had the chance to talk about where I was from, how I came to Malta, my day job at the PCN, my side business, and my family.

Talking about all of those things brought up great memories.

The reactions and comments from people that listened to that show have been both humbling and encouraging. Late in the basketball season, several have come up to me to say hello or that I did a great job on the interview, and considering how nervous I was, I would say that is a win!

I had the chance to relive how I came to Montana sight-unseen after meeting my lovely wife, and I have to admit that even though I get discouraged about missing home, I would do it all over again.

I’m not saying that I have a radio voice, but I have to say that it was an honor! The only super awkward part was the name of the station. I had joked that I wouldn’t want a T-shirt! It was a great time despite the name!

It has been a while since I have put out an update on the boys. PJ has been doing great in third grade. He almost has straight A’s! Lincoln is pretty funny but he has been doing really well in preschool and says he is ready for “big kid,” school AKA Malta Elementary School.
