Malta Golf Teams Head to Postseason

The Malta golf teams saw action in Wolf Point last week, at the Poplar Invitational on Thursday, May 4, and in Conrad for the Cowboy invitational on Monday, May 1.

“The kids did well as a whole in Wolf Point for our last season meet,” Malta Head Coach Kate Webb told the PCN. “Everyone improved and it was a great day! Teams are feeling ready going into divisionals!”

In Poplar, scores were combined amongst all golfers male and female. Glasgow’s Riley Smith won the meet with 81 strokes or nine over par. Mustang Kaden Bishop took second, being only one stroke away from tying with 82.

Hunter Stolem was the next Malta kid on the list, tied for eleventh place with 94 strokes.

For the girls, M-ette Kennedy Koss was the top finisher amongst all women golfers at 13th overall, with 96 strokes.

Mustang Trooper Stiles tied for 18th with 99 strokes, Camryn Mears tied with M-ette Sydney Gibbs for 21st with 100 strokes, Kyann Bergo and Kylie Bishop tied for 24th with 102 strokes, and Brittney Sorlie was tied for 26th with 103 strokes.

In Conrad, the M-ette varsity won their meet as a team and were led by Kylie Bishop, who had 101 strokes and was fourth individually, Kennedy Koss had 103 strokes and was fifth, Sydney Gibbs had 104 and placed sixth, and Brittney Sorlie had 108 and was seventh, to give the four-person team 416 strokes.

Also competing in varsity was Kyann Bergos who had 121 strokes.

Shelby was second with 460 strokes and Glasgow was third with 486.

Bishop led Malta again in Conrad, taking ninth place with a score of 88, Stiles had 99 strokes and was 23rd, Kellen Murray had 102 strokes and was 25th and Mears had 119 and was 32nd, placing the team sixth overall.

At the JV Girls Meet in Conrad, Elly Anderson took first place with a finish of 115 strokes. Emree Stuart was second with 119. Shaylee Hines was fourth with 120, Layla Messerly was seventh with 129, Addy Anderson was eighth with 131, Madison Williamson was tenth with 138, and Lashyiah Red Eagle was twelfth with 145.

Malta’s JV Boys were led by Eli Hanson, who had 114 strokes and Tyler Hansen was ninth with 115.

Malta competed at the Divisional Tournament on Tuesday, May 9, but the results will be in next week’s PCN.

The team was able to have a practice run in Shelby, but it wasn’t the team’s first experience..

“We were able to get on and see the course in Shelby this season, so that’s helpful for our first year golfers having some experience on this course under their belt,” Coach Webb said. “We know we have to stick to fairways and greens, and limit our 3 putts and we will be sitting well.”
