Malta's Jay Southwick was honored by the American Legion Department of Montana at the District Meeting held in Chinook on May 13.
Southwick has filled the position of Service Officer since the passing of Dwayne Raymond in 1999.
The Service Officer is the individual that serves as a liaison between the family and funeral home in the preparation for military burial services. Since assuming the duties, he has only missed a couple of services for brothers and sisters in the service.
