One Nation, Under God

I Think That We Started a New Tradition

This past week I was introduced to the Medicine Hat Lodge (MHL).

What I didn’t know was that many people around here have experienced this hotel in Southern Alberta, as well as the many water slides in that area.

Though my sons seem to be afraid of heights, they had a blast on the two water slides at the MHL.

The first day, PJ went on the slides over and over, making a few new friends while doing so.

Despite enjoying the smaller slides at other hotels in Canada, Lincoln didn’t get on the water slides on the first day, but he made up for it on the second day, going on the smaller of the two slides right into the waiting arms of Susan or I.

The trip also served as a celebration of Susan and I, as we celebrated our 11th Anniversary of Marriage.

Though we didn’t really have a romantic getaway, it was cool to enjoy a few of our favorite things across the border, which includes Poutine and Chinese Food.

We also found out that their Dairy Queen still serves Mushroom Swiss Burgers, which my wife loves. Don’t worry Malta DQ, we will still hit you up!

In Medicine Hat, the boys had the chance to see something that Susan and I remembered from our younger days; a thriving shopping mall. I hope that malls in the US can find ways to thrive again.

One of my favorite memories was seeing them so excited to see a store full of basketball, baseball, and football jerseys, not to mention their huge assortment of Funko Pop collectables.

Lincoln was able to find a Ninjago hoodie and sweatpant combo, that I am sure he will want to wear almost everyday at school.

PJ made sure that we saw every Pokemon and toy that he was interested in.

We were able to knock out the boy’s back to school shopping, and everyone found a pair of sneakers, except me.

I did however find Bubble Tea. It is a weird drink but I thoroughly enjoyed it. And Turkish Delights!

It was nice to meet a lot of new faces. Though a lot of people that we talked with had no idea that Malta exists, Havre was a topic of discussion.

We had a few ask “why would you come here?”

Those same people had nothing but great things to say about Havre and how the town 90 miles away from us was amazing.

I love seeing the joy on people’s faces here, when I say that we went to Canada and love hearing what the towns of Medicine Hat and Swift Current mean to them.

Though it is nice to be back home, sometimes it is nice to experience something different. I cannot wait to take my mother up there. She is heading this way soon for a week or so.
