Fourth Annual Craig Mangis Memorial Rough Stock Rodeo

The Trafton Park Arena gave spectators one last night of rodeo before the school year began in Malta, as close to 40 cowboys performed at the Fourth Annual Craig Mangis Memorial Rough Stock Rodeo last Saturday.

"Very good rodeo, I felt," Trafton Arena Committee President Jerey McEwen told the PCN. "We tried to keep the action going fast but when you are constantly at the bucking chutes it's hard to keep rolling things in fast. These guys are young and some are pretty green and rushing things too much doesn't help the rider or the horse, but I think we moved it along and kept the crowd into it."

Stock Contractors included Jim Orahood, Tim Pankratz, and AJ Crasco. Robert Toavs of Wolf Point was the event's announcer.

The event raised enough money to provide another student with a $1000 Scholarship. The scholarship was created for anyone going to a trade school. Last year's scholarship went to Brylee French, who graduated from Malta High School last spring.

Cole Rehm was the winner of the Ranch Bronc Buckle with an early score of 81 points. The Buckle was in Memory of Travis Scheffelmear who passed away this past January. Scheffelmear was a cowboy who performed at the Craig in previous years.

Michael Butterfly was second with 79 points. Shelby Essert and Lane Schroeder tied for third with 68 points.

Jack Reid won the Saddle Bronc Buckle.

AJ Crasco's bulls reigned supreme as nine riders were unable to perform a qualifying eight-second ride. Crasco was award the Craig Buckle to match his father's from a couple of years ago.

McCoy Hould won the Mutton Bustin event and was awarded the Buckle.

Though McEwen felt that this year's Craig went well, he believes that next year will be even better.
