Dodson Welcomes Seven New Runners

The Dodson Cross Country team only welcomed back one returning runner this season, but the team had ballooned to eight runners, giving Dodson Head Coach Tianna Bloomer plenty of reasons for optimism this year.

"This is the largest high school team I've had in a very long time and all of them are new kids coming from Fort Belknap," Coach Bloomer said.

In addition to having numbers, the team has been impressing Coach Bloomer and Assistant Coach Pat Ditmar.

"It is a very hardworking and dedicated group. They are very supportive of each other," Coach Bloomer said. "Pat and I are pleased with their progress and their determination."

Sophomore Donovan Posey has been leading the boys' group and lead the team again by finishing third in Scobey with a time of 19:28.7 and ninth in the Havre Invitational on Friday, September 8, with a personal best of 19:00.84.

"Donnie wants to place in the top 10 at state and is tracking his progress after every meet," Coach Bloomer said. "He is currently sitting 13th in class C."

Baylee Johnson, a freshman, has been leading the Lady Coyotes this year. She had a time of 26:06.2 at the Scobey meet which earned her an eighth place finish. She was thirty-third at the Havre meet with a time of 25:33 at the Havre meet.

"Baylee wants to take time off and make it into the lower 20s if not into the teens," Coach Bloomer said.

Freshman Precious Stiffarm posted her fastest time of the season and her career in Havre, a best of 29:53.4. She also had a time of 32:08.3.

"Precious's goal was to qualify for state," Coach Bloomer said. "Havre was a great race for her and built up her confidence that she can in fact do this. She wants to continue to take time off as well."

Lance Snow is the team's lone returner. Snow posted a new personal best in his only meet so far, in Scobey, of 25:28.4.

"Lance wants to make state and is working on running consistently, without stopping and walking," Coach Bloomer said.

The team will be joined with Michael Turnsplenty at the Hays Meet on Wednesday, September 20. Coach Bloomer also said that Turnsplenty has a goal to run at state.

Junior Amara Cochran ran the first two meets in Wolf Point and Poplar, but will take some time off to recover from tonsil surgery.

"Amara hopes to make a full recovery from tonsil surgery and then qualify for state once she is healed," Coach Bloomer said.

The school has three junior high runners this season including Emmitt LoneBear, Jakobi YellowEarring, and Bentley Banks.

The team's next meet will be held in Circle on Tuesday, September, 12. Information on the meet will be in the September 20 issue of the PCN.
