Mavericks Defeat Redhawks and Porcupines

The North Country Lady Mavericks volleyball team picked up a couple of wins last week

They defeated the Froid-Medicine Lake Redhawks 3-0 on Friday, September 15, and the Nashua Porcupines 3-0 on Saturday, September 16.

"Our team has been headed in the right direction this season trying to clean up some serve-receive passing and being more consistent communicating on the floor," North Country Head Coach Charlene Wasson said. "We talked about keeping the energy up in practice and communicating effectively the last couple of weeks and it showed this weekend. Looking forward to the next couple of weeks and the competition we will see."

The Mavs will face the Malta M-ettes in Whitewater on Thursday, September 21. The JV game will kick things off at 4:30 p.m. The Mavs will then travel to Bainville to face the Bulldogs on Friday, September 22.

In their win over Froid, the scores were NC 25 - FML 17, NC 25 - FML 13, and NC 25 - FML 10.

Teagan Erickson had 16 of 26 team kills. Paige Wasson had 12 kills and eight digs. Kennedy Simonson had 24 of 34 assists. Berkeley Hillman had a team-leading nine digs. Hillman also had three aces, tying Wasson and CharLee McColly for the lead. BaiLee McColly had all three of North Country's blocks.

"In this match we had some really good flow happening between our setters and hitters," Coach Wasson said. "We were without Kendall Scheffelmear this weekend because she was healing up from wisdom teeth surgery. We had a great week of practice and it truly showed in how we played this weekend."

The final scores against Nashua were NC 25 - N 13, NC 25 - N 7, and NC 25 - N 16. The varsity players played in the first two sets and then their reserves in the third set.

B. McColly had a team-leading six kills. Erickson and Wasson both had five, and C. McColly had three. T. Erickson had four aces. Hillman and Kodi McColly had two aces. Simonson had ten assists and K. McColly had the team's only block.
