Lady Mavs Handily Defeat Turner, Circle

The North Country Lady Mavericks' basketball team picked up a pair of wins in their last action of the 2023 calendar year. The team is 8-0 this year and is on a 36-game win streak that dates back to March 12, 2022.

The Lady Mavs defeated the Turner Tornadoes 75-14 on Tuesday, December 19, and the Circle Lady Wildcats 57-11 on Thursday, December 21.

The Mavericks will observe Christmas break and do not have a game scheduled until Saturday, January 6, when they host the Scobey Spartans. The girls' varsity game is set to start at 7 p.m. in Saco.

In North Country's win over Turner, the Lady Mavericks scored the first 41 points of the game. Turner did not get on the board until Kryan Hafla knocked down a trey with 3:02 remaining in the first half. The Mavs outscored Turner in every quarter; 29-0 in the first quarter, 14-9 in the second quarter, 12-2 in the third quarter, and 20-3 in the fourth quarter.

The Maverick starters played 19 minutes or less. Paige Wasson led all scorers with 16 points. She also had eight rebounds.

Teagan Erickson had a 15-point, 13-rebound double-double, three assists, and two steals. Kendall Scheffelmear had nine points, four steals, and three assists. BaiLee McColly had eight points, four rebounds, and three steals. CharLee McColly had eight points and two steals. Emerson Downing had seven points. Shelby LaBrie had seven points, seven rebounds, five assists, and one steal. Kennedy Simonson had three points. Josie Brown had two points, three rebounds, and three assists.

In the Lady Mavericks' win over Circle, the Mavs were led by Wasson, who had 16 points. Erickson had 13 points and three assists. Brown had nine points. LaBrie had seven points, five rebounds, and three steals. Scheffelmear, B. McColly, and C. McColly each had four points.

The Mavericks outscored Circle 24-3 in the first quarter, 11-4 in the second quarter, and 20-2 in the third quarter. Both teams scored two points in the fourth quarter.
