Mustangs Travel in Deep Freeze, Defeat Wolf Point

The Malta Mustang basketball team defeated the Wolf Point Wolves in Wolf Point 79-36 last Friday night, a night that featured extremely dangerous wind chills of -40 below.

The Mustangs were scheduled to host the Fergus Golden Eagles on Saturday, January 13, but the game was postponed until Tuesday, January 23, due to the dangerous cold temperatures.

In Malta's win over Wolf Point, the Mustangs trailed 5-10 early in the first quarter, but they ultimately built a 33-16 by the end of the period. The Mustangs also outscored Wolf Point 15-8 in the second quarter, 25-8 in the third quarter, and 6-4 in the fourth quarter.

Dawson Hammond led the Mustangs in scoring with 19 points. Hammond also had seven rebounds, six steals, and five assists.

Bohdi Brenden had 18 points, seven assists, and five steals. Treyton Wilke had 18 points, six rebounds, six assists, and three assists. Carson Ottinger had six points, three rebounds, and three steals. Mason Simanton had six points. Duke Williamson had five points. Kellen Murray had three points and three rebounds. Kruise Stiles had three points and Kazner Oxarart had one point.

Malta had 22 steals and forced a total of 26 turnovers. They scored 34 points off of turnovers and 33 points in transition. Malta outscored Wolf Point in the paint 56-to-14. Malta made 54.7% of their shots from the field, while Wolf Point made 30%. Malta made 29-of-48 (60.4%) of their two point field goals, Wolf Point was 10-of-29 (34.5%).
