Malta AAU Places Four at Open

The Malta Mustang Wrestling Club concluded their folkstyle season of wrestling this past weekend at the Metra in Billings with the Montana Open wrestling tournament. The Montana Open is the largest wrestling tournament held in the state of Montana with 2,113 wrestlers from over 180 teams showing up to wrestle. Wrestlers from all over the country came to wrestle in this highly competitive tournament with some of our wrestlers competing in brackets with as many as 64 wrestlers. This tournament is the traditional end to the Montana wrestling season for youth. Malta had 19 boys and girls wrestle this past weekend at the Metra and four wrestlers managed to make the podium and place in the top six of their respective brackets. Ivan Taylor placed 6th, Gemma Wright placed 4th, Lane Spencer placed 5th and Fletcher Spencer placed 4th.

The AAU season started in January with multiple tournaments being offered every weekend through March. The Malta Mustang Wrestling Club is the youth program for Phillips County boys and girls looking to participate in the sport of wrestling. Kids can participate starting at the age of four and continue through the end of their high school years. Any youth that is interested can participate and practices are typically three days a week during January, February and March. The club has volunteer coaches and parents who keep the program organized and running.
