One Nation, Under God

Spring is My New Favorite Time of Year... In Montana

I may not be alone in saying that this is my favorite time of year in the state of Montana; which is odd for me being that I have always been a fan of the fall season nearly everywhere I have lived.

Fall means that my birthday is near. Fall for a couple of decades meant relief from the heat and humidity. Fall means that Christmas is around the corner.

I have had a change of heart since moving here in 2012. Most of the winters here have been brutal. And though the lack of humidity here is wonderful for summertime, it typically brings those blood-sucking bugs that I will not name. They are horrendous, ruthless, and tend to mess up my summers. I still love and appreciate fall because of fall sports, but the threat of fires is something I hadn’t experienced since moving here. Breathing in any type of smoke feels like something that shouldn’t be happening.

Then there is spring! I have really grown to appreciate spring. I can cut my lawn without being pestered by Phillips County’s peskiest of pests. I really enjoy that the community is moving again and events are so numerous that I cannot seem to keep up.

Springtime means maybe a couple of more snows before we are done with winter! Springtime means I can walk around at track and field meets instead of staying stuck inside. It means that the Malta Golf Invitational is coming and I get to ride the cart around and try to capture images of our local athletes competing.

Springtime seems to rehabilitate the mind. Winter can be taxing mentally. I do struggle with long and cold winters, so when temperatures finally began staying above 32 degrees last week, I think that my mood improved!

Springtime also reminds me of how terrible my diet was. Unlike my beautiful wife, who is thriving in the low-carb lifestyle, I can’t seem to put down the doughnuts.

Proud of you babe. I will catch up…. Right?
