    Boots and Saddles held their final event of the season and with that came fancy new buckles. One winner, six-year-old Chance Pierce participated in many of the events including barrel, key and arena races.     Local Girls compete at College Rodeo in Great Falls Kiana Simonson, rodeos for the University of Montana, in Missoula. She competed in Barrel Racing, posting a 13.39 time to take her into the short go. She bested that time with a 13.32 putting her 7th in the round, and splitting 5th in the average. Jessie Orahood, rodeoing for Dawson Cummunity College, Glendive, competed in Breakaway Roping, Team Roping, and Goat Tying. Jessie had a 4.5, in Breakaway, and in Goats, an 8.4.     Seeing someone else around town with the same exact vehicle you drive can be off-putting. Unless of course you won that vehicle. While Kolby Messerly and Jace Bishop didn't necessarily win matching pickup trucks, they did win matching horse trailers at the 2014 Ty Yost National Team Roping Tour in Billings On July 19.     The beautiful thing about 4-H competitions are the fact that young or old the participant can do well. Jeret Warren, a senior at Whitewater High and RJ Burnham, a ten-year-old Saco resident, have a major age gap, but both of them won the title Grand Champion at the 2014 Phillips County 4-H Horse Show. Jeret, a ten year 4-H participant, sponsored by Todd and Carol Smith, won first place in Senior Showmanship and was a grand champion in the Ranch Horse IV category.     Cole Hould isn't your typical 12 year old athlete. In a world ruled by sports like basketball and football, young Hould is a roper. Though he is from Havre and isn't a Phillips county resident, he is roping well. According to his mother Ruby Hould, Cole has been riding horses since the age of three or four.     The Crossfire Roping Club kicked off it’s season, last Wednesday at the Trafton Rodeo Arena. The six week event features headers and heelers from all around Phillips County. Though event one was supposed to start last Wednesday, June, 18, it was rained out. Therefore, the club hosted both events one and two last Wednesday.   • Malta's first open rodeo in a decade is a success

    About 220 Men, women and children of all ages were present at the open rodeo held at the Pavilion last Friday. Originally the rodeo was supposed to be at Trafton Park, but due to Malta's Thursday afternoon shower, mud and mosquitoes called for a venue change. The event featured broncs from Jimmy Orahood (Malta), bulls from AJ Crasco (South Lodgepole) and roping stock from Dwayne Ozark (Vandalia).   • Local Cowgirl qualifies in two events for CNFR

    Justinn Marshall, Saco, rodeos for the University of Montana Western, at Dillon. The last college rodeo of the regular season was held this past weekend in Missoula. Justinn ended the year with 463 points in Breakaway Roping which placed her 1st. She was awarded a beautiful buckle and saddle. Marshall came into the final rodeo sitting 4th in Goat Tying. She split 1st in the long go, with a 9.0, then placed 3rd in the short go with a 9.5, which also put her 3rd in the average.     Justinn Marshall competed at the Great Falls College rodeo this past weekend, held in the Four Seasons Arena. Going into the short go on Saturday night, she was splitting 3rd in Goat Tying with a time of 7.5. She beat that time with a 7.4, placing her 1st in the short go, and also winning the average.
