Headline: New Malta Superintendent is settling in

Almost one month into his new job as superintendent of the Malta School District, Kris Kuehn is settling in and taking an “observe and learn” attitude.

He is already enjoying the luxury of having an “administrative team” to consult and bounce ideas off of, a luxury he didn’t have at the Highwood School District where he was superintendent for three years or at Opheim before that where he was principal for two years and a science teacher for seven.

Headline: It’s Dizzyland in Malta, “Crazy Day” is Saturday

Downtown Malta will become Dizzyland for a day when the Malta Merchants host “Dizzyland-Crazy Day” on Saturday, July 29.

The promotion will feature some sizzling sidewalk sale specials from participating merchants.

But, the highlight will be a visit from live Disney characters including Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Pluto and Goofy along with other characters.

The special events get underway at 10 a.m. when Disney characters and their companions appear on Front Street to greet shoppers and children.

From 1-2 p.m. the Malta Rotary Club will host the Rotary “hay hide” in which youngsters scramble to find $25 in hidden money.

Free rides on the Malta Fire Truck will be available from 2-4 p.m. and Mayor Garry Adams will be giving rides in his antique car.

Headline: Siren silent for now

Malta’s siren won’t be wailing anymore except at 9:30 p.m. curfew hour.

The siren was reactivated about a month ago when a freak bolt of lightning hit a tree at the courthouse that sent a charge of electricity into the dispatch center blowing out a printed circuit board in a radio console.

The damage to the console prevented dispatchers from paging firemen and ambulance crews via the pagers they wear on their belts. As a result, the siren was activated to alert personnel to emergency calls.

Headline: Malta Still Growing

If a person who has not been in our little city for some time were to come here at this time they would surely feel elated over the number of new buildings and private residences that are going up here every day. Up on the hill in the Harry Cosner addition where was once a barren prairie is now dotted with new dwellings and private garages. The walls for the new H.M. Kirton residence are up, and carpenters are rushing this building into an early completion. Mayor Caselberg’s new concrete residence is partially finished and will soon be ready for occupancy. Laramy’s are building a new ice cream manufacturing plant in the rear of their store and work on the new Vareny-Shady-LaVesconte garage is progressing.

Additional Locals: We understand that Norman Ronning is making preparations to start a store in the Norwegian settlement north of Lovejoy in the near future. Mr. Ronning is a good business man and will no doubt enjoy a liberal patronage.

On Sale: This week at Trafton-Dorr Co., Muslin and Crepe Underwear at a 25-percent discount and Children’s Romers and Wash Suits are Half Price.

Additional Locals: T.C. Penny, the moving picture magnate, was in a Glasgow bound passenger on the delayed No. 2 Tuesday morning train.
