Malta's Pastime could use your help

At one point in Phillips County’s history America’s Pastime or Baseball was the area’s biggest event.

Today the county has no adult league or high school league, but there is hope for kids that want to play in a league.

That league is called the Milk River Bambino Summer League.

The league is split up into two categories. Little League and Tee Ball.

Though the league ended last June, Kevin Hunter and Carter Clausen, the league’s overseers are aiming to improve the league for many seasons to come, but they need our help. That help won’t cost a thing, only a moment of your time.

Liberty Mutual, a popular insurance company is holding a competition that promotes good sportsmanship and that promotion also gives ten organizations around the country a chance to win $2,500 for anything that organization needs.

“They basically have a deal set up, where you can get your organization registered and the people from the community go in and pledge to support good sportsmanship,” Kevin Hunter the League’s co-overseer told the PCN. “By doing that the company tallies how many pledges you have and then they award those $2500 grants out.”

PlayPositive is looking for pledges from anyone who will sign up and pledge to promote good sportsmanship.

Though it is not guaranteed that the Milk River Bambino League will win one of ten awards, each tally will help.

If the league were to be awarded the $2,500 prize the league would continue repairs to the clay fields and pitcher’s mounds at Trafton Field, as well as provide new and better equipment for the participants including batting helmets, catching gear, bats and balls, to make the game safer for the kids.

The league has also told the PCN that it looks to add another month to it’s already one month league. The league will open as usual at the start of May and will host games until the end of June.

The league would also like to extend thanks to the Malta Athletic Club, who donated two clay bricks towards the repair of the pitcher’s mounds at Trafton Field.

To sign up go to Playpositive.com/Pledge and enter Montana as the Organization State and Milk River Bambino as the Orginazation Name. Then simply fill out the short questionnaire to enter.

Entries will not be accepted after October 15, so please hurry and support our local sports!
