More to hunting than filling a tag

Hunting season got off to an ugly start last month. According to the Great Falls Tribune, hunters surrounded a large herd of elk on open land east of Helena on the second day of the season killing 30, and wounding an unknown number of animals. Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks wardens issued numerous warnings and cited three hunters for hunting without landowner permission.

It’s an old story with a new twist. Word of the herd’s appearance apparently spread like wildfire thanks to cell phones. Then hunters allegedly used pickups and four-wheelers to block the animals escape....
