Malta City Council eyes start to pool season

Malta Mayor Shyla Jones announced at last Tuesday’s City Council Meeting that the Malta City Pool is tentatively scheduled to begin operation June 6 (though it could be pushed back to the 8th) and that, as of now, the pool will be run out of the City Office instead of hiring a pool manager for the summer season.

Mayor Jones said that she wasn't sure if the pool has enough lifeguards as of yet, but has some potential applicants that could round out the staff.

She said that until she is sure that there are enough life guards at the pool the hours and days of operation are still a bit of a mystery.

"My real concern is Friday and Saturday," Mayor Jones added.

City Works employee Jim Truelove confirmed that the rest rooms at Veteran's Memorial Park will be completed prior to the First State Bank Car Show on June 6.

Truelove also confirmed that a new slide will be installed in Trafton Park on Tuesday, May 19, replacing the old slide that made its way to the park after being located at Malta Elementary for many years.
