2015 Jean Green Memorial brings family and friends together in second year

The only thing better than having a fourth of July family get together is having that event raise money for charity.

That's just what happened at the second annual Jean Green Memorial Golf Tournament held Saturday, July 4 at Marian Hills Golf Course.

The Memorial held by the family and friends of Jean Green raised $500 for the Knights of Columbus.

The event awarded twenty-six prizes amongst the 13 teams playing.

The day was won by the four man team consisting of Spencer VanWichen, Teaguean Knudsen, Lance Hasler and Keenan VanWichen.

Second place went to Shane Anderson, Mark Slade, Lynn Simonson and Warren Veneble.

Third place went to Merrill Piercy, Joetta Piercy, Marisa Wahl and Joyce Donoven.

"Everybody's home for Independence day, so we like to make it a family get-together," said Dallas Green of Whitewater, who is a son of the late Jean Green.

Slade, who placed second in the event with his team shared some insight on his Father-in-Law.

"Jean was big into the Knights of Columbus and he liked to golf, so we just started a golf tournament for him to support the Knights," Slade said. "It's just a good way to get together and golf."

Slade, who lives in Great Falls, had nothing but great things to say about Marian Hills Golf Course, which looked great even with the heat of summer.

"It's a good way to support the golf course, the golf course is in great shape," Slade said. "Cory (Shelhamer) has done a good job."

Serena Veneble, a daughter of Jean Green and her husband Warren came all the way from Miles City and her sister Marisa Wahl made the trek from Glendive with her husband Zach Wahl.

The member that trekked the furthest distance was Dale Green and his wife Tracy. The couple brought their family all the way from Prior Lake, Minnesota.

"It's a good way to give back to the community and have fun on the Fourth or July," said Melanie Slade, who is the wife of Mark Slade and daughter of Jean Green. "To get us all to come home and celebrate and remember what my dad loved doing is pretty awesome."

Jean Green was a fourth degree Knight with the Knights
