Mustang trio in All Star game

All three will attend MSU-Northern, Boos to play LB

Malta Mustang football standouts Quintan Boos, Collin Holman and Cole Brown graduated last may, however the trio had one last chance to take the field together as members of the North in the 2015 Class B All Star Game on Saturday, June 13 in Billings at Rocky Mountain College.

The team ultimately lost 37-28 to the South, but the Malta athletes had a great time.

The all star squads had less than a week to learn their new offensive or defensive system.

"Tuesday we showed up and had an afternoon practice and a night practice," Brown said.

From there the teams would have three-a-days on Wednesday and Thursday and a two-a-day on Friday.

Though the practices were long and harsh, Brown had mixed feelings about the week.

"It was pretty fun and bittersweet because I like football but it's not really a passion of mine," said Brown, who played right tackle. "It was really fun to play with everyone that we usually play against."

Some of those players were from Glasgow and two played on the same offensive line that Cole was on.

"It was a little different at first, but I had kind of gotten used to it," Brown said.

Protecting the quarterback from outside rushers, Brown had the daunting task of facing some of the best pass-rushers Montana had to offer.

"I had to learn new pass-blocks, but it was alright after I got used to it," Brown said.

Coming from a run-based offense Brown was unfamiliar with "building a bubble around the quarterback," but considering the team scored 28 points, Brown did well.

Brown was hurt a majority of his junior year, playing only half the season. He played great enough to make the All-star team in his only season as a starter.

"I was kind of excited when Coach Bleth and Coach Oxarart came up to me and told me I was selected for the all-star game," Brown said. "That was pretty cool."

Though Brown doesn't plan to play football in the future, he would consider playing if MSU-Northern asked him to walk on. Brown plans to study automotive technology and business management.

Holman, played inside linebacker and was side by side with Boos, who was selected to be a captain.

"It was fun," Holman said. "I really missed football in the fall. It was a lot of fun to go play football with people that really love to play football."

Holman was originally an alternate to play in the game and he didn't know he would be playing until the final days of the school year.

"The last day of school, I got a letter saying that I get to play," Holman said. "I was excited."

Like Brown and Boos Holman plans on going to MSU-Northern, but his field of study will be in business and plumbing. He doesn't plan on playing football in the near future.

"College is pretty much like a full time job," Holman said. "I wouldn't walk on. I would probably have to get a scholarship to do it. I haven't gotten the offer so (far)."

Boos, is the only player who will definitely be playing football for MSU-Northern next fall. He also enjoyed the game.

"It was fun to play with Collin and it was just an all around fun experience I thought," Boos said. "I made a lot of good friends. It was all around worth it."

The game stoked the fire, for Boos'
