Mustangs crush Shelby 50-14 in rainy game; Will clash with Wolf Point on Friday

With only three more games left in the regular season, the 4-1 Malta Mustangs are in control of their playoff destiny after defeating Shelby 50-14 last Friday in a game that was held in a downpour.

"We're just playing together as a whole unit and things are clicking," Mustang Head Coach Nick Oxarart said of the team's four game win streak. "We have a lot of comradery on this team and they're working hard for each other. It takes eleven guys to make plays work and they're doing a great job."

Though it was a rainy outing, Malta kept their composure.

"We just said the conditions are the same for both teams and we knew it was going to be slick," Coach Oxarart said. "I said in pregame to check the footing and said make sure to take steps instead of long strides because we can't have guys slipping and falling and missing plays."

After the game senior wide receiver/cornerback Tyson Carney shared the same thought.

"The other team is playing through the same rain you are so you just gotta play through it," Carney said. "There's nothing you can do about it. You can't change it. You have to play through it."

The team will no doubt hope to face dryer conditions this Friday as they travel to Wolf Point to take on the 2-4 Wolves.

"They're pretty big upfront and they want to run the football," Coach Oxarart said. "They have a lot of good athletes so we will have to play a hard and physical game to come out on top in Wolf Point. It's tough to play in Wolf Point, always."
