Oil prospects are found near Saco

Ground near Saco has been found to be so saturated with oil that it will burn when touched with a lighted match.

The prospects of Saco becoming a great oil city in the northwest is not an idle dream, for many new discoveries and facts indicate that Saco is in the center of a great oil region.

Mr. Gross, the quiet man who was with us a few weeks ago and who obtained oil leases from everyone he possibly could before anyone had hardly realized what he was after, is a man who has drilled over three hundred oil wells in southern states and out of these only 22 were failures.

Whitewater News

One of S. Soneicheson steers fell in one of the Olson Bros. dry wells last Tuesday. Mr. Soneicheson had to roust the whole neighborhood to get the steer out of the well. It was lucky that the well was not over 12 feet deep.

M.H.S. Mustangs play Browning for Crown

The Northern Montana Class B football championship will be decided at South Side Field tomorrow.

Malta is primed for the battle and Mustang stock has taken a sudden rise with the announcement that little Boon Ochitani, Blue and White bantam quarterback, will probably start the game. Ochitani suffered a hip injury in the Glasgow game but has made a full recovery and is ready to go.

"Antelope" Dick Runnion, who is one of the sweetest ball carriers ever to wear the Blue and White, though only a freshman, is ready for starting duty.

Short run for Firemen

Firemen did not have far to go about 5 p.m. Friday to answer a fire call.

Kenneth Fowler of Cut Bank set fire to a mattress in the city jail after policeman Howard Dopp had arrested him on a charge of driving while intoxicated. The police have been given a "bad time" by Fowler since his arrest, did not respond immediately when Fowler called "fire." When the door was opened, Fowler was overcome by smoke but soon recovered.

The fire truck, also housed in the City Hall, didn't make much of a run. It was only necessary for firemen to man the hoses to extinguish the blaze.

Health Care Fund-raiser gross: $52,748

A record crowd turned out Saturday night for the 14th Annual Phillips County Health Care Fund-raiser and Dinner Auction.

And by the end of the evening the event netted an estimated $46,372 – more than enough to meet the fund-raiser goal or raising $27,000 to purchase a new hematology analyzer for the hospital laboratory.

A total of 282 dinners were served.

Phillips County Health Care Fund-raiser Committee Chairman Ken Wiederrick honored auctioneer Cliff Rustad for his 14 straight years of volunteer participation in the event with a mock check for $539, 594, representing the amount raised in the first 13 years.
