Card News for February 10, 2016

PC Whist League

The Phillips County Whist League started up on January 10 at the Westside Cafe Banquet Room.

There are twelve teams of two for a total of six card game tables.

Here are the scores so far: January 10, 1st Byron Ereaux and Nellie Ereaux 64, 2nd Leonard Leader and Jeanette Heinle 63.

January 17, 1st Leonard Leader and Jeanette Heinle 58, three way tie for 2nd Shep Gilmore and Jesse Gray, Don Brewer and Drew Brewer, Tim Hines and Shane Anderson 55.

January 24, 1st Don Brewer and Drew Brewer 75, 2nd Byron Ereaux and Nellie Ereaux 64.

January 31, two way tie for 1st Wade Jones and Darren Demarais, Jerry Depute and Joyce Wright 62, 2nd Leonard Leader and Jeanette Heinle 56.

There was no Whist League on February 7 due to other Phillips County events.

Valentine’s Day, February 14 will be the next card game at 2 p.m.

To see the action take place there will be just five more chances to become a fan on Feb. 14, 21 & 28, none on March 6, resume on March 13 & 20.

Whist

On February 2, Leonard Leader took first place with 48 points, Malcolm Clouse was second with 46 and the traveling prize was awarded to Shirley Jones.

Pinochle

On February 4, Shirley Jones finished first, Geri Peterson was second and both Jones and Jeanette Heinle earned the traveling prize.

Hi-Line Whist

On Saturday, February 6, Agness and Ann defeated Mary and Pearl in the first two games, 14-9 and 15-2 before rallying for a win in the final game, 13-0.

"We did it," said Pearl. "We finally beat the crack."

The 'crack' Pearl is referring to is a blemish on the card table they play whist on each Saturday. Before the 13-0 win by Mary and Pearl, the team who sits on the "wrong side of the crack" had never won a game.

Malta Duplicate Bridge Club

At the Club Championships game held Wednesday, January 27, Keith Stine and Margo Rush ranked first. They were closely followed by John Norgon and Byron Ereaux.

Monday winners were Bob Maxie and Keith Stine. Bonnie Millar and Anna Faye Simms earned second.
