Malta Track & Field 2016

Malta looks primed for 2016 State run

Malta is looking pretty stacked heading into the 2016 track and field season.

For starters the M-ettes are returning every state performer they had last season minus graduated senior Darby Schye, who took sixth in shot put.

Returning for M-ettes is Sophia Stiles, who is a reigning two time triple jump champion and also reigning long jump champ as well.

Senior Kaitlyn Smith took fifth in javelin with a throw of 127-03. She also placed twelfth in shot put with a throw of 33-04.

High jumpers Hailey and Jada Nicholson both had a solid season last year. Jada took sixth place in the high jump after clearing 5-00 and tied for fifteenth after clearing 4-08.

Mary Grace Kalal had a personal best of 96-09 in discus taking thirteenth at state. She also posted a strong throw of 96-03 in Javelin at the State B.

Marley Manoukian posted a personal record of 50.24 in the 300 hurdles last year at state.

The short relay team consisting of Manoukian, Schye, Smith and Stiles took seventh after posting a time of 51.94 seconds in the final round of the race. And even with the loss of Schye the team may have a shot at making it to state this season.

Riley Mortenson was a strong performer in the 800 and 1600 runs taking thirteenth and twentieth respectively.

The long relay team placed twelfth with a time of 4:25.16. The team consisted of Manoukian, Mortenson, H. Nicholson and Schye.

The Mustangs welcome a new, but experienced face, Dominic Judd who is a state champion hurdle-runner from Maine's 2015 State B State Championship. Judd took first place in the 300 hurdles with a time of 40.01 seconds and second place in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.35.

Judd's influence will bode well for the Mustangs who were led by their long relay team, who took sixth in Montana's State B last year. That team was comprised of Ostin Welch, Jase Galt, Tyson Carney and Allen Williamson.

Carney took ninth place in javelin after leaving a mark at 156.-03 and Jace Bishop followed, placing tenth in javelin posting a throw of 155-08.

Welch took nineteenth place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.53.

Jase Galt took nineteenth in the triple jump after clearing a length of 38-08.

Williamson took twenty-first place in the 100 with a time of 12.46.

The Mustangs also welcome back Devon Raybon, Jalen Lamb, Caleb Salveson, Antonio Lopez, Travis Epperson, Cody Werk, Konner Kuehn, Tel Jensen and freshmen Payton Clausen, Andres Lopez, Kaden Bergos and Kolter Schipman.

The M-ettes welcome back Ella Schye, Adrianna Bibeau, Joanie Sjostrom, Mariah Green and Sara Ware.

The M-ettes have a few first timers including Mystic Striker, TaChante Cole and Brieanna Plummer. Freshmen include Sammy Dolphay, Kyleigh Schipman, Libby Rush, Raina Mortenson, Janessa Malmend, Taylor Gilkerson and Shelby Jones.
