Penguins kick off track season

The Whitewater Penguins may be younger than they were last season but the team still boasts plenty of talent as shown by sophomores Trace Simonson and Trey Simanton who both won two events a piece in last Friday's Porcupine Invitational. The team also went to Havre for the Lions Invitational Meet last Saturday.

Simanton took first place in the 110 hurdles with a time of 18.26. Simanton also won the 300 hurdles with a time of 46.96. He also took sixth in the Lions Meet's long jump event after leaving a mark at 17-7 ¼.

He took third in the Lions' 110 hurdles with a time of 17.10 and fifth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 45.90.

At the Porcupine Meet Simonson won the triple jump with a length of 37- ½ and first in discus with a throw of 124-5. He took fourth in the javelin with a throw of 140-6 and fifth in shot put with a throw of 37-10.

Simonson took second in discus at the Havre Lions meet with a throw of 130-1, fourth in Javelin with a throw of 135-10 and fifth in the triple jump with a time of 36-6.

Cody Scheffelmear took sixth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 50.66.

For the girls' team, Kayleigh Cummings took fifth in shot put with a throw of 30-3 at the Havre Meet. She also took fourth at the Porcupine Meet with a throw of 95-2 in javelin. Cummings also had a length of 29-11 in the triple jump giving her fifth in that event.

Hannah Anderson took fifth place in the 100 with a time of 15:32.

Isabella Lawless took sixth place in the 800 with a time of 3:08 ¼.

The team is scheduled to attend the Scottie Qualifier this Monday in Glasgow.
