Sophomore Bailey Funk off to great start for the Panthers

Team scores weren't recorded at the Nashua Porcupine Invitational last Friday in Glasgow, but even so the Saco Panthers made their presence felt, with sophomore Bailey Funk taking both the long jump and triple jump events. Funk also took second in the pole vault.

Funk didn't post any new personal bests in last weeks' Porcupine invitational but she shined with a jump of 13-9 ¾ in the long jump and a length of 30-4 in the triple jump.

Funk cleared eight feet in the pole vault, giving her second in the event.

Challise Young had throws of 57-2 in the javelin throw, 46-5 in discus and 22-2 in shot put.

On the boys' team, Chris DePuydt fared well at the meet taking third place in the final round of the long jump after clearing 16-9 1/2. Sophomore Chandler Pippin cleared 13-2 ½ in the event and Freshman Josh Salveson cleared 12-9.

DePuydt took fifth place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.30 seconds. Salveson had a time of 31.17 and Pippin had a time of 32.01.

DePuydt also took fifth in the 400 with a time of 1:02.06. He was three points of a second from taking third in the event, with Frazer's Saunder St. Marks posting a time of 1:02.04 and taking third, while Nashua's Gunner Greene took fourth with a time of 1:02.05, a split second faster than DePuydt.

Salveson took sixth in the pole vault after clearing 7-06.

DePuydt took ninth in the 100 with a time of 13.29. Pippin had a time of 14.71 and Salveson had a time of 14.81.

The Panthers track teams will see action tomorrow at the Fairview Invitational and then this Monday, April 18 at the Scottie Qualifiers meet in Glasgow.
