M-ettes first in Wolf Point, third at Frazer Invitational

The Malta M-ette cross country team took an afternoon bus east and ventured to Frazer for their annual mid-September Thursday meet. Glasgow won the event with 47 points, Poplar was second with 82 points and Malta took third with 142.

The M-ettes previously won the Wolf Point Invitational on Thursday, September 1 with an overall score of 67 points. Richey was second with 108 points.

There were 54 runners present representing 12 schools. The schools present were Harlem, Poplar, Richey/Lambert, Glasgow, Frazer, Malta, Dodson/WW, Culbertson, Plentywood, Hays Lodge-Pole, Circle and Brockton.

L’Tia Lawrence of Harlem was the eventual winner of the girl’s three mile race and ran the challenging conditions of the course with a time of 20:16. Riley McDonald of Poplar was the second place runner and had a time of 21:47. Third place honors went to Haley Olson of Richey/Lambert who came in with a time of 22:16.

TaChante’ Cole pushed herself hard with the top group and was a top ten finisher, placing sixth with a time of 22.38, which was a personal best for her. Jillian O’Brien ran to a nineteenth place finish and had a time of 23:42, dropping over half a minute from the Malta meet, just five days prior. Mariah Green ran her best time of the season with a thirtieth place finish and a time of 25:56. Taylor Gilkerson also dropped a minute and a half and ran 27:40 placing forty-first.

Monicha Williamson placed forty sixth and finished with a time of 28:42. Jada Nicholson ran a forty seventh place finish and had a time of 28:54.

“Both of these girls ran together for most of the race, pushing each other and each one improving their time,” Coach Thea Solberg said.

Taylor Eggebrecht ran to a forty ninth place finish and had a time of 30:31. Placing fiftieth was Sarah Ware, who improved her time from the Malta meet and ran a 32:52.

“Assistant Coach Fallon Handley and I felt the girls ran extremely well today, considering the challenging conditions,” Coach Solberg said. “Running up and down the hills and mixing in a little rain over a gumbo surface could have been a recipe for trouble, but the team took on the challenge even though they weren’t too excited about it and almost everyone improved their time tremendously or were very close.”

“We are anticipating the large and competitive Glasgow Scottie Invitational Cross Country Meet, which will be held on the flat paved nature trail at the Kiwanis Park near Fort Peck on Saturday, September 24,” Coach Solberg continued.

The individual times for the previous Wolf Point Invitational were:

1. TaChante’ Cole 11th place overall 25:53

2. Jillian O’Brien 12th 26:17

3. Eva Harms 13th 26:25
