Mavericks defeat Lustre, play at Froid-Medicine Lake Invitational

The North Country Mavericks opened the week with a win against the Lustre Christian Lady Lions last Friday in Lustre. The team won 3-0 with the scores being 25-12, 25-22 and 25-15.

“One thing I noticed is that we were able to get the ball set a little better,” Coach Barry Malone said. “Our passing is improving and Casity was able to get to the pass. There were some that were a little errant but she got to some, and was able to get it to some of our big hitters who were able to knock it down.”

Coach Malone went on to say that he was encouraged that the team was able to get the three hit attack.

“It’s not quite where we want it, but it’s getting a little better," he said.

The team was led by Jada Sudbrack and Mickayla Johnson who both had seven kills apiece. The team had 17 total kills. Sudbrack also had seven of the team’s 15 aces and two blocks. Casity Boucher had all fifteen of the team’s assists and Kayleigh Cummings had five of the team’s 21 digs.

The team had a hard outing at the 2016 Froid-Medicine Lake Invitational as they fell 1-2 in pool play and ultimately lost the first game of tournament play to the Froid-Lake Redhawks 25-7 and 25-14.
