Cleaning up 'my' mess

My dog Brucey gave me a friendly reminder of why I need to clean up after myself.

Last week, my wife bought me an early Father’s Day gift that was two years in the making. It’s no secret that I love smoking meat, so many of you already know what it is.

Last year, I was supposed to get a new grill but scared of the price of that grill, I picked up a second hand grill for a fraction of the cost. That grill has served my family really well over the past year and has accumulated countless hours of use.

The main issue with that grill is that it was built in 1996 and while it has held up well, 21 years of opening and closing the lid has taken its toll on the lid.

The new addition to the family came over a week ago thanks again to my loving wife, who convinced me that upgrading was the right thing to do.

Upon receiving my grill from Farmers and Ranchers, I took it home and let the box sit outside for a couple of hours. After that, I decided to set it up. It was probably the easiest setup I have ever had for a grill.

After the setup, I noticed that I had left a huge mess in our porch, so I did what anyone would do, I slept on it.

The next morning, I woke up excited to test the grill out. Just to season it and do a burn off. The purpose of that is to kill any random germs and prepare the cooking area.

As I was about to head out to work, I had noticed our two year old pup made a huge mess in his kennel. I assume it’s because he heard me tinkering in the garage at about 5:30 a.m. and figured I forgot to let him outside.

When he does that I can’t always get to it right away but fearing the aroma would tarnish my new grill, I took action or at least wanted to but I had a huge mess in our porch due to the fact I left it there.

I was excited to light up the grill, but really peeved at my dog. Needless to say, his kennel is clean and so is my back porch.

The moral of the story, I won’t go near Brucey’s kennel in the early morning, unless I plan to let him out. Also, after assembling anything in the future, I vow to clean up my mess right away.
