Malta Trails hosts 'Howl at the Moon' kayak trip

To usher in the first full moon of summer, the gang over at Malta Trails Inc., decided to host an event to get participants yowling when the ‘Howl at the Moon” kayak event sets sail on Friday, June 9.

"We thought it would be something fun to do during the full moon," Malta Trails President Laura Pankratz said. "It will be a nice get-together for people to dust their kayaks off and get ready for summer."

Pankratz said she hosted a nighttime kayaking event a few years ago and it was well attended and everyone had fun.

The event will take place at Nelson Reservoir at 7 p.m. and people are asked to meet at the cabin of Art and Marty Lundstrom (close to the State Park) to depart in the kayaks. Pankratz said arrows will be posted to help people guide their way to the Lundstrom cabin. Pankratz also asks that those attending bring light headlamps (in case the night is overcast and the moon doesn't provide enough light) as well as life jackets, beverages, and campfire roasting food.

"Art and Mary have very graciously offered their site which is only like a mile away from the State Park," Pankratz said. "Bring your skeeter spray too."

For those of you without kayaks, you might be in luck. Pankratz said that she has a few which she rents out (three of the 12 were left to rent as of the time of this story) and Pankratz said you could always try your luck on Social Media.

"Get on the yard sale site and see if anyone has any extra kayaks," she advised.

For any questions, Pankratz said people are encouraged to call her at 390-3460.

"It is going to be a great time," she assured.
