Fort Peck Dam not endangered, say engineers

Recently circulated reports that giant Fort Peck Dam - world's largest earth filled structure - had developed a leak and was in danger of collapse, were discredited by army engineers.

"There is no more danger now than there has been in the past five years," said Maj. H. H. Dunham, acting district engineer. "Residents have not been warned to move out of the valley below the dam."

Fair Warning

He - "So what."

She - "So you'd better go."

"What have you there?" her father asked.

"Oh," said the child, "just an advertisement about heaven."

Too literal

"You look broke up. What's the matter?"

"I wrote home for money for a study lamp."

"So what?"

"They sent the lamp."

Street Talk

Question: Do you think people are more patriotic or less patriotic than they used to be?

Ross Olson: I'd say less, because most people don't want to work for what they get. They want everything given to them.

Arabelle McMullen: I think they are more patriotic.

Leroy Simonson: I think people were more patriotic while Desert Storm was going on. I guess now that the politicians are around looking for re-election, people are more apathetic.

Lindsay Lang: I think less patriotic. They just don't care as much.

Adam Koss: Yes, we do.

Greg Kelsey: No, I don't.

Helen Austin: No, there are too many laws, now, that are not that important.

Joseph and Joshua Nelson: No, I don't. Some people are trying to get rid of our right to bear arms. ...No, I also don't like the restriction of our right to bear arms.
