One Nation, Under God

H.G. Robinson House Flower Show

The interior of the H.G. Robinson House was the site of the annual Dirt Daubers Garden Club Standard Flower Show, while the backyard was host to the Phillips County Museum Antique & Collectible Sale last Saturday, July 15.

The flower show packed out the bottom floor of the Robinson house and gave quite the spread for a group of accredited judges from the National Garden Clubs Inc. that day.

"They are accredited by the Montana Federation of Garden Clubs and they are under the National Garden Clubs Inc. out of Saint Louis Missouri," Kathy Waters of the Dirt Daubers said.

Waters was impressed by the entries despite the fact that the drought has been rough.

"Our Horticulture was down," Waters said. "It's been so hot and so dry and windy. We can't control that. We appreciated everything that everyone brought in."

Jane Ereaux's display entitled How to Make a Succulent Wall Hanging won the Educational Ribbon, the education division's first place award.

In the Perennials, Bulbs and Corms division, Toni Ziegler's Oriental Lily won an award for Horticultural Excellence as well as the award of Merit.

Anne Boothe won the Tri-Color Award in the Tri-Color Division for her underwater rose display.

Among the categories were Youth Designs that featured over a dozen arrangements made by Boys & Girls Club members with the help of Dirt Daubers, Rosemary Veseth, Ziegler and Jennifer Strzelczyk.

"The kids have been doing real well," Waters said. "You can tell the ones that have been doing this for several years. They are beautiful."

There was a 12 and under grouping as well as a 13 to 17 age group. Kayden Green was honored with a first place ribbon for his entry Honey Bee.

The event also featured a miniature display category but no big ribbons were given due to there not being enough entries.
