One Nation, Under God

Voices of Democracy competition announced for high school students

Across America, students in grades 9-through-12 are being invited to participate in the Voice of Democracy competition. Since 1947 the VFW has offered the VOD as it’s premier scholarship program, with approximately 40,000 students competing annually for scholarships and incentives. This year’s theme is “AMERICAN HISTORY: Our Hope for the Future”.

The entry is a 3-5 minute recorded essay which is provided to the local Buster Deo Post 4067 VFW Post by Tuesday, October 31. Local entries will be judged and from the entries one entry will be sent to District level for competition, followed by competition at State level. Malta VFW Post had an entry several years ago which qualified and competed at national level, which includes a trip to Washington, D.C.

Students throughout the county, including home schooled students are eligible and encouraged to submit their entries by October 31 to the Patriotic Instructor of the VFW Auxiliary Kari Hould at PO Box 1296 in Malta. Anyone with questions may contact Hould at 390-3552 or Donald Klinko of the VFW at 654-1759.

With the current situation and pace of the nation, the essays should make for some excellent presentations. Good luck to all students!
