Malta Wrestling Club at MT Open

The Malta Wrestling Club accounted for twenty of the over two-thousand wrestlers at the 2018 Montana Open held at the Rimrock Auto Arena in Billings on Saturday, March 24 through Sunday, March 25.

The team took forty-eighth out of 145 teams. The event was won by Upper Valley Aces, who had 94 points from 33 wrestlers. Sidney Wrestling Club was the runner-up with 82 points from 49 wrestlers. Team sizes varied from one to 60-plus wrestlers.

Miles Bunk took third place in the 18 & Under 220 class. Bunk went 1-2, losing the third-place match to Cory Trainor of Lovell.

Laytin Erickson took third place in the 10 & Under 89 class. Erickson went 3-2, winning his first three matches. He would eventually go on to lose the second place match to Bronc Cordingley of Upper Valley Aces by a 5-2 decision.

Trevor Knowles took third place in the 8 & Under 108 class. Knowles went 3-2 at the event and lost the second place match to Jacob Parker of Rawlins Wrestling Club by pinfall at :46.

Kenan LaBrie took fourth place in the 10 & Under 113 class. He went 2-2 losing to Jayen Clark of Colstrip Wrestling Club by a 5-1 decision.

Kallie LaBrie took fifth place in the Girls 6 & Under 46 class. She went 2-2 at the event and won her fifth-place match by pinning Manda Hart of Chinook by a 5-3 decision.

Colby Wright took fifth place in the 8 & Under 42 class. Wright went 0-2 at the event, receiving a bye win for fifth place.

Camryn Mears went 3-2 in the 15 & Under 123 class. Lane Spencer went 3-2 in the 8 & Under class. RC Skiff went 2-2 in the 15 & Under class. Straud Sims went 2-2 in the 10 & Under 77 class. Trenton Blunt went 2-2 in the 6 & Under 40 class. Cameron Spencer 2-2 in the 6 & Under 49 class.

Cameron Mikesell went 1-2 in the 15 & Under 102 class. Henry Benge went 1-2 in the 10 & Under 100 class. Jackson Wright went 1-2 in the 10 & Under 53 class. Matthew Bilger went 1-3 in the 8 & Under 62 class. Chastidee Blakesly went 0-2 in the Girls 6 & Under 46 class. Steeler Blunt went 0-2 in the 8 & Under 62 class. Spencer Gibbs went 0-2 in the 15 & Under 130 class. Jay Nicholson went 0-2 in the 15 & Under 130 class.
