PCMS Big Dollar Race this Saturday

Though the 2018 Phillips County Motorsports' Big Dollar Race was supposed to conclude the racing season on Sunday, September 23, the season was extended due to rain.

The makeup race will take place this Saturday, September 29, at 10 a.m. as the Box and No Box classes will take the line for a shot at a pot of $12,000.

"We base the payouts on a 100 car count and we had over that this weekend," PCMS Vice President John Carnahan said. "We pay out $3,500 for first, $1,500 for second and $500 for the semi-finalists."

The Box class cars runs controlled electronics, which help drivers reach more accurate reaction time, while the No Box class has no electronics. While there is no Sportsman class for the event, racers with stock cars can run in the No Box class.

The track's points races concluded on Monday, September 3.

The Box Super Pro class was won by Havre's Steve Neiffer, who had a total of 766 points. John Enno of Williston, N.D. took the runner-up spot with 716 points. Alexis Stahl took third with 627 points.

The No-Box class was won by Chinook's Dan Johnson, who had 827 points. Cole Casteel of Crosby, N.D. was the No-Box class runner-up with 755 points. Third place went to Havre's Brian Buskirk who had 655 points.

Schultz, Neiffer, and Johnson, each qualified for the 2018 International Hot Rod Association Finals in Memphis, Tenn. The race will happen on Thursday, October 18, and will conclude on Saturday, October 20.

"All in all, we had another very successful year," Carnahan said. "I would guess without looking at the numbers that our average car count per racing weekend had to be around 96 cars, which is just phenomenal."

Carnahan went on to say that the track hosted several new racers this year.

The PCMS Fundraising Dinner hosted around 300 at Malta's City Hall last Saturday, September 22.

"It went very well and we were very pleased," Kari Carnahan said. "We had people from Saskatoon, Seattle, we had a big Billings contingent, all of our regular racers and many, many new ones as well."
