Phillips County 4-H Clubs to host Carnival during Car Show

The Phillips County 4-H Carnival is making a return to Malta this Saturday during the First State Bank of Malta Car Show after the event has been on a five-year hiatus.

“We used to host the carnival in the fall,” Jenifer Anderson, one of the event’s coordinators said. “But they noticed attendance had been declining and we feel like during the car show is a great time to have it.”

The 4-H Carnival will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, at Stockman Terrace and run until 2 p.m. The day will feature concessions, prizes, cake walks, and, of course, games. Anderson said that some of the day’s games are a football throw, a basketball game, Go-Fish, mini-golf and many more.

“That’s just a small sampling,” she said. "We used to have the carnival at Malta City Hall, but we think the Stockman Terrace will be a great location during the Car Show.”

There are currently about 170 children and young adults in eight Phillips County 4-H clubs (including Clover Buds and Shooting Sports).

“Each of the clubs is responsible for running three or four games as well as the concession booth,” Anderson said. “All the proceeds go to the Phillips County 4-H Council as a whole.”

The games are open to children of all ages and tickets are 25¢ each for the games and each game will cost a certain amount of tickets to play.

“We encourage everyone to come down, play some games, eat some food and support all of our local 4-H groups,” Anderson said.
