Dodson News for June 5, 2019

Hope everyone had a good Memorial Day Holiday. They say after Memorial Day it's summer, and it is in spades. These temps in the 80s and 90s are a surprise and hard to adapt to.

The cemeteries in Malta and Dodson looked so nice thanks to David and Steve, mowing and cleaning and helping put things up, before there was a groundskeeper, he helped with the flag, at half staff. For the first time in approx. 50 years except for about five years when John Nordlund put most of them up, my husband, Elmer, and I have helped put up the military crosses at the Dodson cemetery but this year due to bad health reasons, groundskeeper Steve Tremblay took over the installation. The community thanks Steve for doing this and seeing the crosses were up. This is a Legion project and for almost all the years he was a member Elmer oversaw the placing of the crosses, and before there was a groundskeeper, keeping the flag at half staff and raising it We thank everyone who helps with this project. People still look forward to them being there Memorial Day and commenting on them.

I was in the Malta cemetery on Sunday, the day before Memorial Day, everyone was decorating and all the many veterans flags were waving in the stiff wind that was blowing. Coming from large families my husband and I have a lot of relatives dating back to Elmer's grandparents buried in the Malta cemetery, our parents, many siblings, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins and in-laws. As I'm sure other families who have lived their lifetimes in this community do too.

The community sends condolences to the family of Mark Newby in his passing. Also to the Mortenson and Solberg families in the passing of Dick Oldfield, husband of the former Edna Mortenson.

Lulu Olson and granddaughter Melissa stopped and visited Linda Vulk and Dora Henry. Lulu and Linda were old companions from childhood.

There were no services at the Dodson Lutheran Church last Sunday.

Steve and Tara Cole were up to visit Wink and Terri Cole and helped with some odd jobs while there.

Polly Solberg and Dora Henry were in Havre on Tuesday. Polly was distributing posters for the coming Gospel Jamboree.

Some of the trees around town have been so slow leafing out this year and people have thought they had been winter-killed. There are a few of them that did. Lilacs were late this year and some did not bloom. Jerry and Bonnie Lankford had some in bloom. Winter was harsh on plants and people this year.

Birthday greetings to all having a birthday and congratulations to all having a wedding anniversary.

As we grow up, we realize it is less important to have lots of friends and more important to have real ones.
