M-ettes continue to adjust

The Malta M-ettes Volleyball Team is now 1-6 after losing their lone regular-season game to the Roundup Panthers on Friday, September 27, in Roundup.

The team also competed in the Roundup Invitational Tournament on Saturday, September 28.

In the team’s loss to Roundup, Malta was led by Carly Garfield who had two of Malta’s four kills and one of Malta’s two blocks. Kylie Hunter had 12 of Malta’s 44 digs. Lauren Tuss had two of Malta’s four kills and Macy Williamson had two aces.

Malta lost the game 0-3. The scores of the game were 8-25, 13-25, and 25-14.

“Still making adjustments to find what works for us due to all of the injuries,” Malta Co-Coach Kalli Rummel told the PCN. “Our team is young and many of the girls do not have a lot of previous varsity experience.”

The M-ettes are without setter Erica Smith and Kelbee Denham, who were lost to injury.

“This is making it challenging to find where to place every one to make us the strongest team,” Coach Rummel said. “We made small mistakes that added up throughout the match and the reffing is different down in the south so they call more setting penalties than what we are used to.”

The M-ettes fell short in the Roundup Tournament losing to St. Labre. The M-ettes varsity was pitted against St. Labre after defeating the M-ette Junior Varsity squad in the first round.

“It was a close match which is exciting for our program's future,” Coach Rummel said. “We were highly focused on our serve receive which I'm pleased to say has improved but we struggled to make plays at the net. We had a lot of good touches on blocks but we were not having success on attacking. This placed us as fourth in our pool and into the silver bracket.”

The M-ettes were scheduled to play North Country in Whitewater on Tuesday, October 1. That game will be in next week’s PCN.
