One Nation, Under God

Glad to be home

Ready or not, here it is.

I thought it was ridiculous that we had tons of snow dropped on us during October. I thought to myself, yes this is terrible but not bad.

We are a little over a week in December. Now I am starting to believe all of the warnings that I have been told about this year’s winter; it is going to be bad.

A couple of weeks ago, on a Sunday, I found myself taking a road trip to Havre, testing the frozen water and taking my life into the mercy of the cold, snow, ice, my minivan, and other drivers.

I remembered thinking that I needed to take defensive driving to the extreme. That morning, the whiteout conditions were rough, the roads were full of snow, and I could only go 50 miles per hour throughout most of the trip.

In all, I made it to my destination thirty minutes later than usual. It was rough. And though I saw only a couple of people stuck in ditches, I was not one of them.

That day I was afraid that I might be stuck in Havre. I thought that if I couldn’t get home, I would have to write the newspaper stories from a hotel room. I also thought that if I was stuck in Havre, it would be a good reason to buy a new laptop.

My old laptop downloaded Windows 10, and since then it hasn’t been the same. It just doesn’t work. I had tried all weekend to bring life back into it. I installed updates, which worked for a second, but after a couple of paragraphs the program froze up on me. Though technology is a good thing, when it gets old, it gets frustrating.

Luckily for me, I did not get stuck in Havre and the roads were much better going home, as I was able to get pretty close to the speed limit without putting myself or others in any danger.

Nothing beat the next morning, as my boys woke up excited to see me. Lincoln even said the first clear sentence that I could understand. He said, “I love you Daddy.”
