Some businesses set to reopen as Covid-19 restrictions loosen

Correction: May 6, 2020 8:06 a.m.

The positive test for the COVID-19 virus in Fergus County reported below was taken off of that county’s total after it was discovered that the infected person no longer lives in Fergus and hasn’t for at least a year.

There are no positive COVID-19 cases in Phillips County or any of the counties that border it as of this correction.

As of Monday, May 4, the total number of confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus in Montana is at 457 with 404 recovered and 16 total deaths and Gov. Steve Bullock's "phased re-opening" means this week, many business in Phillips County can reopen while continuing to use social-distancing best practices.

Many restaurants in Phillips County - including the Tin Cup Bar & Grill, Stretch's Pizza, The Great Northern Steakhouse, and the Hitchin' Post - all started offering in-dining services on Monday and hair and beauty places all opened in Phillips County last week.

Churches have also gotten the go-ahead to hold services, though many are asking that elderly church members continue to forego attending in person and instead listen to services on the radio at least for this coming Sunday. KMMR FM will broadcast the following church services this Sunday: 8:20 am Faith Chapel; 9 a.m.Malta Lutheran; 10:10 a.m. Pastor Chad Wisher Hi-Line Gospel Message; 11:00 am Malta Elim Lutheran, and 1:10 pm Little White Church.

Gyms and the Villa Movie Theatre are still closed for the time being, though the theatre's owners have been spending their down-time doing more revamping of the moviehouse (see that story next week in the PCN.)Valley Drug in Malta is back to regular business hours as well.

The Phillips County Health Department told the PCN that there have been 20-to-25 COVID-19 tests administered and all have come back negative. Statewide, a total of 15,088 tests have been administered as of May 4 and there have been a total of 62 hospitalizations (currently a total of six active hospitalizations.)

Up until last weekend, no counties that boarder Phillips had a positive test for the Covid-19 virus, but that changed when a female, age range of 60-to-69, tested positive in Fergus County on April 30. Blaine, Valley, Petroleum, Garfield, and Valley Counties still have no confirmed cases.
