2020 Election results for P.C.

While the Country continues to see recounts and court battles, Montanans saw a record voter turnout on November 3rd 2020. Out of 752,538 registered voters, 611, 188 citizens exercised their right and responsibility to cast their ballot- a historic 81.22 percent turnout, according to the Montana Secretary of State’s election results website.

In Phillips County, the 84.12 percent turnout was even more impressive, with 2,412 votes cast. We voted at pretty straight 80/20 percent in favor of Republicans over Democratic candidates.

At the national level, 1,936 of Phillips County votes went to the republican ticket, with Donald Trump and Mike Pence receiving 81 percent of the vote, over Democrats Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, who received 17 percent with 416 votes, and Libertarians Jo Jorgensen and Jeremy “Spike” Cohen getting the remaining 1 percent with 30 ballots cast in their favor. Statewide, 56.9% of Montana voters cast their ballots for the Trump/Pence ticket.

Republican Candidate for United States Senator Steve Daines also cleaned up with 1, 895 votes (80%) in Phillips County and 55% of Montanan voters over Democrat and sitting Governor Steve Bullock’s 483 votes. With almost identical numbers, Republican Matt Rosendale is the winner of a seat in the US House of Representatives with 56.4 percent of the overall vote (Phillips Co: 1,908/80%), over Kathleen Williams (Phillips Co: 489/21%).

The State of Montana saw Greg Gianforte and Kristen Juras taking 80 percent, or 1, 908 votes in this county and 54% of Montana to win the governorship. Democrats Mike Cooney and Casey Schreiner fell short with 412 local votes and Libertarians Lyman Bishop and John Nesper claimed 2 percent of the vote with 53 votes cast.

Austin Knudsen was elected as Montana’s Attorney General with 1,917 local votes over Raph Graybill’s 433 and 58% of Montanans voting in support. Incumbent Elsie Arneson claimed 52% of Montana’s votes and 80 percent of PC ballots to reclaim the office of State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Republican Troy Downing received 55% of Montana votes in the State Auditor race, and Christi Jacobsen won the Secretary of State race over Bryce Bennet with 60% of Montanans voting for her.

In Montana Supreme Court Races, Laurie McKinnon defeated Mike Black for the Justice #5 spot, and Jim Shea retained his office for another term with 76 percent of Phillips County votes.

State Senators Mike Fox and Mike Lang both ran unopposed and retained their seats, with Fox receiving 84% of local votes, or 271 votes, and Malta local Mike Lang receiving 1,460 votes (100%).

State Representative District 32 went to Jonathan Windy Boy with 57 % of votes overall. In Phillips County, Windy boy only received 108 votes, with Republican challenger Bruce Myers with getting 574 votes. Our own Casey Knudsen will retain his seat as the State Representative for District 33 with 1,492 total votes.

Tami Christofferson, Clerk of District Court, and Richard Dunbar, County Commissioner District C were both reelected with 100% of ballots cast.

Phillips County voters supported Constitutional Amendments C-46 and C-47 with roughly 70 percent each. These amendments also succeeded statewide with about 75% voting in support.

Montana Constitutional Initiative 118: Allow Marijuana Legal Age passed in the state of Montana with 57.9 percent of the vote, despite 57 percent of Phillips County voting against it. Similarly, Montana Initiative 190: Legalize Marijuana passed with the support of 56.9% of Montanans, despite nearly the same percentage of Phillips County voting against it.

Finally, Montana Legislative Referendum 130, to revise Conceal and Carry Laws, was supported by 50.9 percent of Montana voters, and 59% of Phillips County voters.
