One Nation, Under God

My mother enjoyed her time at the PC Fair!

What a week!

For starters, my Chicago Bulls are one of the most improved teams on paper after the first week of NBA Free Agency, the U.S. was pretty dominant at the 2020 Olympic Games, racking up a total of 113 medals, 39 of which were gold. China was second in the medal count, winning a total of 88 (38 gold), and the Phillips County Fair was held in Dodson!

Even with such a great week of sports, my biggest highlight was seeing my mother. She came to town during Fair week because I told her how great it was! Being a Chicagoan, she had never experienced a fair, let alone one as rural as the P.C. Fair.

Though she is from a big city, my mother enjoyed every moment that she was at our fair. She could be seen tapping her foot to country music played at the RCAN Rodeo, shouting at the Indian Relay Races, or in awe at how wild the bulls were at the NRA Rodeo.

One funny moment was when we were checking out the 4-H and FFA animals and I inadvertently made a loud noise, accidentally startling my poor mother. That day, she pet her first pig and saw a local boy get a real piggyback ride.

The fair ended on a somewhat chaotic note as the fairgrounds got soaked on Sunday evening during the last hour of the Indian Relay Races. Though we ducked in and out of the grandstands without any rain gear, my mom wanting to see the whole event! It will surely be one of my best memories with her! She truly enjoyed the fair and that made me super proud!

Susan and the boys came through on Sunday morning. Poor Lincoln has been fighting an upper respiratory infection and finally felt good enough to go to the fair. On Thursday, PJ came to the NRA rodeo to spend time with his grandma, while I attempted to take pictures.

I am so grateful for all of those who stopped us to say hi, and those that helped make this trip such a memorable one for my mother!

I am bummed that she had to go back on Tuesday, but I am hopeful that she might come to visit again soon. There may be a chance that she will bring her sisters to next year’s P.C. fair. She is already thinking about the Illinois State Fair!
