Basketball recap from around the County

Basketball teams around Phillips County saw action last week, but due to limitations in space this week (not blaming Santa or Christmas, because the publisher does not want a giant lump of coal), the scores and stats are condensed here.

Malta Mustangs

The Malta Mustangs saw their first conference action last weekend, and picked up two road wins. They traveled to Harlem on Friday, December 17, and beat the Wildcats 58-46. The Mustangs also defeated Wolf Point 65-48, in Wolf Point on Saturday, December 18.

In Malta’s win over Harlem, the Mustangs were led by Connor Tuss who scored 19 points. Rex Williamson had 16 points, Jared Eggebrecht had 12 points, Stockton Oxarart had six points, Treyton Wilke had five points, Jonathan Siewing had four points, Kaden Bishop had two points and Seth Siewing had one point.

Malta is scheduled to face Glasgow on Wednesday, December 22, in Glasgow, for their last game of the calendar year. The game is set to start at 8 p.m.

Malta M-ettes

The Malta M-ettes picked up a pair of wins over District 2B opponents last weekend.

Malta defeated the Harlem Wildcats 61-36 in Harlem on Friday, December 17, and then Wolf Point 61-57 on Saturday, December 18, in Wolf Point.

In the M-ettes’ win over Harlem, Malta was led by Allison Kunze who had 17 points. Justine Lamb had 14 points. Aubri Werk had eight points, Maddie Williamson had seven points, Addy Anderson had six points, Kylee Nelson had five points, Kennedy Koss had two points, and Elly Anderson had one point.

In Malta’s win over Wolf Point, the M-ettes were led by Anderson, who had 20 points. Nelson had 13 points, Kunze had 12 points. Williamson and Lamb each had 7 points. Aubri Werk and Lauren Tuss each had one point.

Malta will travel to Glasgow to face the Lady Scotties on Wednesday, December 22, at 6:30 p.m.

N.C. Lady Mavericks

The Lady Mavericks made the most of their one-game weekend. Despite their game against Dodson being postponed, the Mavericks had a strong defensive showing in their win over Circle.

The Lady Mavericks will take on the Nashua Lady Porcupines in Nashua on Tuesday, December 21. The game is set to start at 6 p.m.

The North Country Lady Mavericks basketball team picked up a win against the Circle Wildcats last Saturday night in Saco. The score was 45-25.

The Lady Mavericks were led by Teagan Erickson, who scored 20 points. Jaycee Erickson had nine points. Paige Wasson had six points, Zandora Longtree had four points. Kora LaBrie, Mattea McColly, and Kendall Scheffelmear each had two points.

The Mavericks only allowed seven points in the first half, while scoring 19 points of their own. The Lady Mavericks also outscored the Wildcats 26-18 in the second half.

North Country Mavericks

The North County Mavericks nearly picked up their first win of the season against the Circle Wildcats on Saturday, December 18, in Saco.

The team led 23-20 going into halftime but was outscored 30-21 in the second half.

The Mavericks were led in scoring by Aiden Albus who scored 14 points. Trey Johnson had 11 points. Kade Strommen had 10 points. Coy Bowman had five points and Blaine Downing had four points.

Dodson Coyotes

The Dodson Coyotes fell to the Scobey Spartans last Saturday in Scobey. The score was 65-41. The Coyotes’ game against North Country, originally scheduled for Friday, December 17, was postponed due to a shortage of referees.

In Dodson’s loss to Scobey, the Coyotes were led in scoring by Kadin Racine and Michael Jaynes who each had 12 points. Alex Werk had nine points and two treys. Sebastian Best had seven points and Cash KillEagle had two points.

The Coyotes are scheduled to play the Nashua Porcupines on Wednesday, December 22, at 6 p.m. in Nashua. They played Turner on Monday, December 20. The recap will be in next week’s PCN.

Lady Coyotes

The Lady Coyotes were defeated 45-23 to the Scobey Lady Spartans on Saturday, December 18, in Scobey. The Coyotes were led by Kataya KillEagle who scored a game-high 18 points. Lindsey Fetter scored three points, and Jean Jackson scored two points.
