On To State! Mustangs Open Against Whitehall

For the first time since 1999, the Malta Mustangs are going to state. A 44-38 victory over the Fairfield Eagles Saturday night in the Northern Divisional championship game ended the drought.

The Mustangs run up against Whitehall, the number three team from the southern division at 2 p.m. at the state tournament at MSU-Bozeman.

“They’re a very deliberate team,” Malta coach David Costin said Monday. “They like a slower pace and they’re going to play a lot of, probably exclusively, 3-2 zone.”
