LaBrie Signs to Play at Miles City Community College

Whitewater senior and North Country basketball standout Kora LaBrie has signed her letter of intent to play basketball with the Miles City Community College Pioneers during the 2023-24 season.

The guard, listed at 5'3", is the daughter of Kris and Tricia LaBrie of Whitewater.

She was first asked, why Miles City?

"I wanted to keep playing basketball," LaBrie said. "I got a chance to go down and talk to Coach (Jenna) Bolstad, meet the team, and we took a tour of the college. I really liked it."

She said that she liked the size of the college and the courses that the school offered.

Thanks in part to a summer camp that Coach Bolstad put on in 2021 in Saco, LaBrie was able to meet the coach. Coach Bolstad also hosted another camp in Whitewater in 2022, which also featured former Lady Maverick teammate and Whitewater student Kia Wasson as a helper.

LaBrie was able to check out the MCC campus shortly after the end of the 2022-23 regular season.

"I got to meet some of the team," LaBrie said. "I attended two of their practices, toured the campus, and I really liked it."

Shortly after, LaBrie helped the Lady Mavericks to the Co-op's first state title in March.

"It was really exciting because not very many kids will get to say that they accomplished that in their high school career," LaBrie said. "I was really proud of my team. Getting second in my sophomore year, and third last year, as a junior, I think that first place finish was the best feeling. It was awesome."

LaBrie believes that she will see time at the point and shooting guard positions.

"Coach said that she likes my defense," LaBrie said.

She was asked what it meant to have been a Lady Maverick over her high school years.

"It's been really special to me," LaBrie said. "The co-op, getting to play with the girls from Saco and Hinsdale, I have made some friends that I think that I will have throughout my lifetime. Girls that I really love. It has meant a lot to me."

She also pointed some attention to her coaches.

"Getting to be coached by Coach (Charlene) Wasson and Coach (Amber) Erickson, and Coach (Amber) Strommen, they are the best," LaBrie said. "I just loved being a Lady Maverick throughout my four years in high school basketball and volleyball."

In her last two seasons, she had the chance to compete alongside her younger sister Shelbi. She was asked what it was like competing with her sibling.

"I'm going to be honest," LaBrie said. "I think that sometimes during basketball, we didn't really get along that well, because we really push each other. But I think we got better playing against each other. I also think that it has brought us closer together. So I really kind of cherish that; getting to play with her."
