Lady Coyotes Fall in District Tourney, Defeat Nashua In Consolation

The season ended for the Lady Coyotes at the District 3C Tournament last Friday, February 16, in Glasgow.

The Lady Coyotes did make some noise on the way out, defeating the Nashua Lady Porcupines 44-23 in the first round of consolation games on Thursday, February 15.

Dodson fell 60-13 to the Circle Wildcats in the first round of the tournament on Wednesday, February 14. They fell to the Lustre Christian Lady Lions 61-19 the day after their win over Nashua.

Jazlyn KillEagle led Dodson in their victory over the Lady Porkies with 13 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and four steals. Precious Stiffarm had 10 points, eight rebounds, and two steals. Lily Turnsplenty had seven points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Turnsplenty was asked about the team's win and the key to their victory.

"The key to our win was having team chemistry," Turnsplenty said. "Just knowing that we are there for each other, trusting each other, and having no negativity."

Baylee Johnson had six points, a game-leading 11 rebounds, and one steal. Amara "Big Mars" Cochran had five points and nine rebounds. Kashton Siers had three points and four rebounds.

KillEagle, also a sophomore, was asked how the win felt.

"It feels pretty good," Jazlyn said. "This season has been through its ups and downs. Just getting the win feels pretty good."

The team has been without their lead-scorer Kataya KillEagle, Jazlyn's older sister, due to a lower leg injury that abruptly ended her senior season.

"I definitely miss playing with her," J. KillEagle said. "She was a lot. She was helpful. She was the other ball handler and she is my sister. We have that chemistry when we play together and I miss it a lot."

The Lady Coyotes outscored the Porcupines 19-7 in the first period, and knocked down five of their six treys in the quarter. Both teams struggled to score in the second quarter, but the Lady Coyotes went into halftime with a 23-12 lead. They outscored Nashua 21-11 in the second half.

In the Lady Coyotes' loss to Lustre, Cochran had five points and six rebounds. Kyra Campbell had five points and two rebounds. Precious Stiffarm had four points, three rebounds, and two steals. J. KillEagle had four points and two rebounds.

In Dodson's opening round loss to Circle, the Lady Coyotes were led by Baylee Johnson who had five points, seven rebounds, and two steals. KillEagle had four points. Siers had four points, three rebounds, and one steal.

J. KillEagle was asked about the team's loss to Circle and what the team learned.

"Circle. They don't mess around," KillEagle said. "They are just there to get it done. We were just getting over the heaviness of what happened in our season and just getting back into the groove of it. Everything was just finding its way back onto the path."
