The Malta Cross Country team participated in the Fergus Cross Country Invite on Friday September 20 at the Pine Meadows Golf Course in Lewistown. This was an impromptu meet for us as we had found out the weekend before that the Frazer meet had been rescheduled for the following week and therefore we had no meet on the schedule for this week. The Whitewater Penguins headed to Lewistown on Friday, September 20th for the Fergus Invite on Pine Meadows Golf Course. The high temperature of the day was 67 degrees with a nice breeze. There were 30 high school teams competing and 18 junior high teams. It was a large meet with many class A and B teams present. The Malta Mustangs (3-0) football team sent a shock wave through Class B football as they took down the Jefferson Panthers (2-1), a team that was ranked first or second by many around the state. The Malta Cross Country team traveled west to the Havre Invitational Cross Country meet, last Saturday, where teams from up and down the Hi-line met on a beautiful late summer morning with cool temps, overcast skies and a nice breeze. The meet takes place at Prairie Farms Golf Course north of Havre, a green oasis in the middle of farmland. The Malta Mustang football team is 2-0 in their 2024-25 campaign after defeating the Baker Spartans 54-14 on Friday, August 30, and the Red Lodge Rams 21-18 on Friday, September 6. This year's group returns plenty of talent from a team that went 5-5 and made the playoffs last season. The North Country Lady Mavericks Volleyball team graduated their top two hitters from their 2023 season that ended with the team taking third in the State C tournament for the second season in a row. The team will be without Teagan Erickson, Paige Wasson, and Kendall Scheffelmear, who graduated last spring. All three earned All-Conference honors last season. The Dodson Coyote Cross Country Program features 10 high schoolers and five middle schools in 2024. The Coyotes have one senior this season; Junior Stiffarm. The team lost Elly Anderson and Kataya KillEagle to graduation, but brings back plenty of familiar faces including seniors Ava Hanson and Kelbie Nelson.
