  • Malta Sending Runners to State

    Thea Solberg, For the PCN|Oct 23, 2024

The Malta Cross Country team traveled west to Harlem on a chilly autumn morning for the last meet of the season. The Harlem Cross Country meet takes place at the Harlem Golf Course, a relatively flat 3.1 mile course. This is a great meet and a great place to test your skills you've practiced all season, and hopefully give you a little mental boost and help you gain confidence for the state meet the following weekend. In the past, I have dubbed this the "flat as a pancake" course, one in which yo...

The Malta cross country team headed east early Saturday morning to Fort Peck, the site of the annual Scottie Cross Country Invitational meet. The races would start at the north end of the parking lot of Fort Peck Dam and Interpretive Center. The start of the races would mean that all runners would face the west and the wind and would run into it for over 400 meters or more until you got...

  • Penguin XC Attends Pride Land Invite

    Carly Hammond, For the PCN|Oct 9, 2024

The Whitewater Penguins headed to Lockwood on Thursday, October 3rd for the Pride Land Invite. This was a new course for us to attend. We usually go to the Great Falls Invite this week but this worked better for our schedule. Thankfully it was a challenging course that pushed the kids to their limits. We only had two kids competing, Shelbi LaBrie and Sommer Green. This was a small meet with only 22 varsity girls and 23 jv girls consolidated into one race. There were some pretty good competitors with several Billings teams in attendance. The...

Malta is officially the top ranked team in Class B Football according to many social media sites around the state. Malta senior...

  • Malta Runs at Frazer, Mountain West Classic

    Thea Solberg, For the PCN|Oct 2, 2024

The Malta Cross Country team traveled nearly 950 miles this past week and not all of it took place over a golf course. The team traveled to Frazer on Thursday, September 26 for the annual meet there, a beautiful area over looking the Missouri River at what is called Clarks Hill, in the middle of farmland and prairie. This meet is known for its figure eight running course where you go up and down the hills, running on dirt roads. It's one of the most spectator friendly courses we compete on,...

  • LaBrie Top Class C Runner in Missoula

    Carly Hammond, For the PCN|Oct 2, 2024

Whitewater’s High School XC team completed in Missoula last Saturday in the Mountain West Classic XC meet. This is probably the state’s largest high school XC event bringing in over 3,000 runners throughout the day. These teams consisted of not only Montana teams but Idaho and Washington as well. It is pretty intimidating stepping up to a line of around 500 athletes in one race and knowing you're going to have to battle for your position in the first mile of the race. It’s a whole different aspect of racing that we just don’t ever have to deal...

  • Junior High Penguins Run in Frazer

    Carly Hammond, For the PCN|Oct 2, 2024

The Junior High Whitewater Penguins headed to Frazer for their final meet last Thursday to compete in the Frazer XC Invite located just South of town along the river. This is a challenging course with long inclines. It is an all-dirt course with one steep long hill and one long gradual hill near the end of the course. We only had two runners compete as we’ve been battling some sicknesses throughout the week. Henson Hellie had a great race, reaching his goal of no walking, and ended at 12:53, cutting two minutes off of his time from the p...
