Malta second graders host Dinosaur Museum

The second grade classes of Mrs. Blunt and Mrs.Veit invited all who could read the front door of Malta elementary to their respective classrooms for their annual second Grade Dinosaur Museum Friday, April 25 at 2:15 p.m.

According the Mrs. Kendra Veit, the students read a couple of sources and wrote a report. After the report was written, they took the most interesting facts from the report to present.

The kids drew dinosaurs on paper taller and wider than themselves, added the name and a diagram of the species.

Every student gave an oral presentation of their dinosaur assignment.

They didn’t stop there, both classes made nests of colorful, paper mache dinosaur eggs, and arranged dinosaur figurines unto desks decked out in a Jurassic table setting.

“We made a classroom book, where they each wrote a page, modeling it after a book called ‘If the Dinosaurs Came Back,’ it’s just a celebration of our dinosaur unit,” Mrs. Veit said.

This was Mrs. Veit’s first year helping with the 2nd Grade Dinosaur Museum.

“I think it’s really special because my sister did and my whole entire family has done it,” said Giona Lamb, a second grader in Mrs. Veit’s class. “My favorite part is talking about dinosaurs and how they were long ago,” she added.

She then told the PCN about her dinosaur the apatosaurus, “It’s long neck is to reach the trees and they have sharp teeth because sometimes they eat meat but not all the time,” she said. “It’s long tail is to whack enemies and front feet and smaller than the back feet.”

She also added that they lay their eggs in lines instead of in a nest and that her dinosaur lived in Colorado, Wyoming, Oklahoma and Utah.

Kalue Bell in another student who presented at the event, his favorite part of the event was drawing dinosaurs. Other than his spoken confession, it was apparent based on the amount of dinosaurs on his page.

Bell not only drew his dinosaur, the pterodactyl but he added a bonus ankylosaurus and another little dinosaur that sadly passed away.
